The top part of the SpamFilter Configuration page relates to the Allow / Deny Address List. You can add email addresses to the following lists:

Whitelist From – E-mail from these addresses will not be marked as spam. You may use ’*’ as a wildcard to allow a large number of addresses at one time. E.g. Whitelist From ’*@aol.com’ will not mark any message that claims to be from aol.com as spam.

Don’t Whitelist From – This address will be excluded from a previous whitelist and will be treated as a normal address, i.e. it will not be automatically allowed.

Blacklist From – E-mail from these addresses will always be marked as spam. You may use ’*’ as a wildcard to block a large number of addresses at one time. E.g. Blacklist From ’*@aol.com’ will mark all messages that claims to be from aol.com as spam.

Don’t Blacklist From – This address will be excluded from a previous blacklist and will be treated as a normal address, i.e. it will not be automatically denied.

Whitelist To – E-mail to these addresses will not be marked as spam. This is useful for allowing e-mail lists. You may use ’*’ as a wildcard to allow a large number of addresses at one time. E.g. Whitelist To ’*@aol.com’ will not mark any message that claims to be to aol.com as spam.

Allow / Deny Screen

To whitelist all contacts in your webmail address book, click the "Allow" button under "Allow Senders from Address Book".

To whitelist an individual email address, for example, if you subscribe to a newsletter and you would like to ensure that you receive all emails from that newsletter:

  • Type the sender’s email address in the "Address:" field.
  • From the drop-down menu labeled “Type”, select the option “Whitelist From”.
  • To finalize your selection, click the “Add New Address” button. This will place the address in your Whitelist and email from that particular email address will not be blocked by SpamFilter.

If you are being emailed by one certain address and would like to have SpamFilter intercept and block that email before it reaches your inbox, you would follow the same steps listed above except you would select the “Blacklist From” option. However, blacklisting specific addresses is not a very effective means of blocking spam, since spammers are constantly changing their email addresses to get around such barriers. By default, SpamFilter uses a wide variety of local and network tests to identify spam signatures. This makes it harder for spammers to identify a single aspect that they can craft their messages to work around.

To remove an email address from a list, click on the “Delete” link next to that email address.
