To configure your dialer for Mag-Net Internet, follow the instructions below. Make sure you are reading the correct instructions for your Operating System (ex. Windows 98 or XP).
Windows Vista
- Click the Start button, then click on Connect To.
- A window that is labeled Connect to a Network will appear. Click on the Set up a connection or network link near the bottom left corner of the window.
- Click on Set up a dial-up connection. Click the Next button.
- On the next screen entitled Type the information from your Internet service provider (ISP), enter the following information:
- For the Dial-up phone number field, enter the phone number 250-277-1011.
- For the User name and password fields, enter them exactly as provided to you at signup. Please note, your password is case sensitive. Check the option Remember this password if you would like your password saved.
- For the Connection name, enter "Mag-Net Dial-up" or something similar.
- Check the option Allow other people to use this connection if desired.
- Click the Create button.
- After the message The connection to the Internet is ready to use appears, click Close.
- You have now completed the Mag-Net dialup set up. To connect to the Internet, click the Start button, then click on Connect To. In the window that appears, click on the Mag-Net Dial-up connection, then click the Connect button.
Windows XP
- Click the Start button, then click on Control Panel.
- Click on the Network and Internet Connections icon.
- Click on Setup or Change Your Internet Connection. A window that is labeled Internet Proprieties will appear.
- Click on the Setup button. Enter your area code and country code then click OK. This will open the New Connection Wizard window.
- On the first screen that appears click Next.
- On the next screen choose Connect to the Internet then click Next.
- Choose Setup my Connection Manually then click Next.
- Choose Connect Using a Dial-up Modem and the click Next.
- On the next screen enter "Mag-Net Internet" in the Connection Name area and click Next.
- Enter the phone number 250-277-1011 and click Next.
- On the screen that appears enter your username and password exactly as provided to you at signup. Click on Next.
- Click Finish. You have now completed the Mag-Net dialup set up, and you will have an icon on your desktop that says Mag-Net. To connect, double-click the icon.
Windows 95/98/ME
- Double click the My Computer icon.
- Double click the Dial-Up Networking icon.
- Double click on Make New Connection icon.
- In the first field that appears type "Mag-Net Internet", click the Next button (at the bottom of the screen).
- Next field says: Type the phone number for the computer you want to call. In the field labeled Telephone Number enter the phone number 250-277-1011.
- Click the Next button and then the Finish button. There will now be an icon labeled Mag-Net Internet in your Dial-Up Networking folder (located inside My Computer).
- Put your cursor on the Mag-Net icon, click the right-mouse button and choose Properties from the menu that appears.
- Uncheck the Use area code and dialing properties option.
- Click on the Server Types tab
- Ensure that Type of Dial-up Server is set to PPP. In the Advanced options section make sure that Enable software compression is the only option checked . In the Allowed Network Protocols section make sure that only TCP/IP is checked.
- Click on the button labeled TCP/IP Settings.
- Ensure that the first choice Server Assigned IP Address is selected. Halfway down, ensure that Server Assigned Name Server is selected.
- Click OK. This will take you back to the Server Types screen. Click OK to save your settings.
- To connect to the Internet, double click the Mag-Net icon on your desktop. The first time you connect, you will need to enter your username and password in the appropriate fields. Place a checkmark in the box next to Save password if you would like your password to be remembered. Click Connect.
