Set Up Email Account in Outlook Express

To set up your Mag-Net Internet email account in Outlook Express, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Open Outlook Express by double-clicking on the Outlook Express icon on your desktop. The icon is a picture of an envelope with two blue arrows wrapping around it. If you do not see an Outlook Express icon, click Start on the bottom left hand corner of your screen then move the mouse up to Programs.

  2. Once Outlook Express is open, select Tools and then Accounts.

  3. Click on the Mail Tab.

  4. Click on the Add button and select Mail…

  5. Enter your name as you want others to see it and click the Next button.

  6. Enter your email address in the format username@mag-net.com or example@yourdomain.com and click the Next button.

  7. Your incoming mail server is a POP3 server.
    For the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, HTTP) server: type mail.mag-net.com
    For the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: type mail.mag-net.com
    Click the Next button.

  8. Enter your email address in the Account Name: field and enter your password into the Password: field. Place a checkmark in the box next to Remember password if you want Outlook to remember your password for email. Ensure that there is NO checkmark in the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) box. Then click the Next button.

  9. Click the Finish button to save the settings. Click Close to close the accounts window and to start using your email account.

  10. For Telus and Shaw users only (using Mag-Net email on a Telus or Shaw Internet connection):
    In Outlook Express, go to Tools > Accounts > Mail > select the Mag-Net email account > click Properties
    1. Go to the Servers tab. Under Outgoing Mail Server, check the box next to My server requires authentication
    2. Go to the Advanced tab. Under Server Port Numbers change Outgoing mail (SMTP) from 25 to 2525.
    3. Click OK
